The List Blog

"What have you been up to?" You know this phrase, as everytime you run into someone you haven't seen in a while they ask you the very phrase. Intead of writing in paragraph form about what we have been up to I am going to write in list form. This is what I do in my journal when I feel like writing but don't know what to say.

1. My parents are coming from Michigan Oct 7-14th. Yep, I am excited because I haven't seen them since my brother's wedding in Nov last year. I took off 4 days from work so I can properly visit with them. Normally when they visit, I have to work or they take a cruise so I don't get to spend that much time with them.

2. On Friday, we FINALLY saw our dear pal Montez. He has bought a fab new car (you can see pictures on his blog) and he came and hung out with the Hub, me and our pal Danielle (minus the Regul, who was working - when is he going to get a day job so we can properly visit with him on a regular basis?) Both Danielle and Montez seem to be doing well. They met up with us at The Big Foot Lodge which is a pretty cool place to hang out as it's themed with woods-y, Boy Scout-y and lodge-y type items. They even have themed drinks like "The Marshmellow" or "Thin Mint."

3. On Saturday, we met up with Caroline to see a movie (Burn After Reading), yes, I know, this is a weird concept (Caroline going to the movies) but I have actually gotten her to go 4 or 5 times with me this year. And she actally asked me to go this time. So I see this as very good progress. If you don't know Caroline you wouldn't know that she hates going to the movie theatre. The popcorn smell bugs her. But it's my goal in life to change her outlook as it is one of my favorite activities.

4. Landscaping our backyard continues. We have a couple more projects to go where we can say we are finished but like with all other things on a house not really truly finished. Meaning that we will have enough stuff done that it won't look like crap to visitors but we will still be working on it over time. We hope to have a big party (maybe a costume Halloween Party?) to show off the backyard and our house to those who haven't seen it yet.

5. The hub and I submitted our request to KLM Airlines to use our two free airline tickets to Amsterdam. Our plan is to go over Thanksgiving (I only had to ask for 3 days off sweet!) and then in the middle of the trip take a train to Paris. Now we have to get crackin' at finding hotels and stuff. Thank goodness the dollar is back up again.

6. The planning for the big family trip to Walt Disney World/Disney Cruise in January '09.... to introduce our 3-year-old nephew to Mickey is pretty much completed. Thank goodness I didn't have to arrange travel for 11 people!! Yikes and thank you Faith! We have airline reservations, hotels booked, the cruise part of the trip booked and of course all the dining choices booked. I am starting to get excited and have been looking up online things to do while on the Disney Ship and of course, like all things Disney, it looks like there is a ton do! I am particularly excited about stopping at the Disney owned island for a day.

7. The hub who is now used to me re-arranging stuff all the time surrendered himself to my command and re-arranged all the "friends" pictures surrounding the office ledge. Yes, I got some new pictures and just had to remove the old ones and insert the new. I also replaced a few old frames I hated thus the Hub's hammering skills were needed.

8. Where in the world is Toby? That is the question on everyone's mind. When are we all going to get to see Toby? Well, I hear he might be coming in October.

9. Fringe, the TV show is pretty darn good. I like the crazy scientist and of course Pacey!!!!! Funny enough, I could care less about the girl who is the lead, she is kinda bland to me. The boys are more interesting to me! Now when will all the other TV shows start? September is taking forever!

10. I love Game Night! The hub and I were invited to a Game Night with some friends of friends and it was super fun. we bbq'd and played Catchphrase. I hope we get included on the next one!!

11. I think Movie Night is dead. I am sad. It was the only way I got to see Regul (I miss him and his rules and his stories about Posums _ I wish I could see him and tell him about the baby posum I found in my yard today - I think it was a posum). And I never got to show my movie darn it! Oh well, its hard to schedule things on a monthly basis with people who live busy lives and who live all over the place, I guess.

That's it folks. List Blog has now come to an end.

I am alive and well. I do miss you and your hub. Let me know early if you are planning to have a halloween party. I am going to St. George, Utah for a job. I am going to fly into Vegas and drive out there. I am checking my schedule to see if I can visit prior or after the trip to Utah.

Buffalo Wild Wings

When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

The Lost Art of Letter Writing

This week I was the recepient of two postcards. In the age of e-mailing and blogging this is a rare occurrrance. It's not that people don't write anymore it's just they are doing it in different forms and I think in less personal forms. It's kinda sad when you think about it. For me, there is nothing better then getting a hand written letter in the mail because it means someone was specifically thinking about you. Writing a letter these days takes a lot of effort when GMail is so near. I mean a person has to pick out stationary (if they even have any on hand), find time to sit down and compose a letter (and who has a spare half hour these days?), find or buy a stamp and actually walk the letter to the mailbox. With all this effort, no wonder people email these days! My girlfriend Becky and I joke that the United States Postal Service has become "Snail Mail." Most times before a letter gets to us these days we already know the information inside ...
