Hollywood Wedding

So did you guys get through my novel? I have a new story to tell and it happened only two hours after I landed at LAX this past Saturday. I was going to stay in Europe until Sunday but right before I left some close friends announced they were to get married. There are a few things you change your plans for and that is family and friends. So alas, I told our travel department to get me back into the States before 5:30PM.

The wedding was a spur of a moment thing but only because the State of California only just decided to let same sex couples get married. My friends have been together for over seven years and three years ago, they had a daughter together. In their eyes they were already married but the paper always eluded them.

You might think it's a trivial thing for gay people to get married but its not. Being able to get married is a big deal to those who don't have the rights to do it. It allows people all kinds of rights, like filing taxes and being recognized as a couple. So thus, now that the law allows it, this celebration came about and boy was it a big celebration.

Due to the nature of work that one of the Grooms does for a living, the wedding was held in the Hollywood Hills at a house that would cost a small, ok probably a large fortune. You might have seen the house on TV as it was where THE BACHORLOR was filmed last season. The hub and I were the first to arrive at the house. Even before the Grooms. Luckily, after I landed at LAX Regul, let me use his apartment to take a shower and get ready. I didn't have enough time to go all the way home and come all the way back.

Since I didn't have time to shop, the hub, who we have already established is a good personal shopper, had bought me two new dresses to chose from. After trying both on I selected a black silk dress with a sheer lace top. Again, I was so amazed the hubby did such a good job. So with an extra half hour to spare we ended up at the undisclosed Hollywood Hills house for the wedding. We waved to the Grooms when the arrived and we hung out on a little patch of grass overlooking the city. We really didn't have to wait long before running into Charlie, the Gilles' and Cynthia, otherwise, known as the AMC clan.

We were chit chatting when someone pointed out that Scarlett Johansson was getting a drink at the bar. I turned and sure enough it was her and she wasn't alone. She was with Ryan Reynolds. Then of course Melissa McCarthy, one of the groom's good friends was there. We were later surprised when Ryan gave a reading. Only in Hollywood could you go to a wedding and see movie stars. I thought my friend, Mikey had come a long way since working in a movie theatre.

The wedding was brief and everyone oooohed and aweeed when little Amy came down the isle in her light green dress and black satin shoes. With her cute little blonde pig tails she enjoyed the glory of being the bride at a two groom wedding. From the vows everyone could tell the two Grooms were very happy that this moment was actually happening.

After the ceremony everyone sat down to dinner. Guess who sat behind me? Scarlett and Ryan. I could have easily turned around to talk to them but who are we kidding? In a land absent of Kings and Queens we have movie stars and this lolipop doesn't mingles with such fame and royalty. Everyone at the table begged me to ask Ryan to dance and perhaps, if I wasn't so dog tired I might have gotten up the courage to ask Ryan to dance. But hello? When you are with a gal call Scarlett, looking as she was and you look up at little ole me, disshelved and tired from a 14 hour plane ride what would you do?

Everyone said he would have danced with me. but would it have been out of pity? I'd rather keep my dance with a movie star as the staring fantasy in my head, where all proper interactions with movie stars belong. Honestly, what was I gonna say to the guy as we were dancing? Ummm, Mr. Movie Star I worked on your Van Wilder movie poster, did you like the way I airbrushed you? I guess I could have followed that by "I just watched (ironically enough) THE OTHER BOELYN GIRL AND DEFINATELY MAYBE on the plane ride from Europe." Or maybe "When you and Scarlett tie the knott can I be invited?"

Dinner was followed by dancing but the DJ just never put enough music together to get anyone out of their chairs. A few braves souls danced to a few songs but no one really stayed long enough to get their grove on Perhaps, they didn't want to embarass themselves in front of the King and Queen (Ryan and Scarlett).

Anyhoo, celebrities aside it was nice to see two people in love get married and it was nice to catch up with some old friends and meet a few new people. We left the wedding at 11PM and then it was time to go home and take the Cinderella slippers off. This princess needed some sleep.

Did you ask Ryan if he likes to play Wii Fit? Did you ask Brian to go dance Scarlett?

Buffalo Wild Wings

When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

The Lost Art of Letter Writing

This week I was the recepient of two postcards. In the age of e-mailing and blogging this is a rare occurrrance. It's not that people don't write anymore it's just they are doing it in different forms and I think in less personal forms. It's kinda sad when you think about it. For me, there is nothing better then getting a hand written letter in the mail because it means someone was specifically thinking about you. Writing a letter these days takes a lot of effort when GMail is so near. I mean a person has to pick out stationary (if they even have any on hand), find time to sit down and compose a letter (and who has a spare half hour these days?), find or buy a stamp and actually walk the letter to the mailbox. With all this effort, no wonder people email these days! My girlfriend Becky and I joke that the United States Postal Service has become "Snail Mail." Most times before a letter gets to us these days we already know the information inside ...
