The WiiFit is Awesome

Yesterday I slept in until 11:3OAM! This is normal for my hubby, but for me it was amazing! See I usually wake up pretty early. If I am lucky I can sleep-in till 8:30-9:00AM on the weekend. I haven't been able to break that bearer in a long time. It must have been due to my late night weekday projects of late. You see when the hubby is home we make dinner and watch TV and I normally fall asleep on the couch around 10. Since the hub has been on nights, I find myself doing little projects to keep me entertained like clean some random cubby, organized my scrap book crap, read some books or log into I-Tunes to buy music that I can work out to.

Anyhoo, when the hub realized it was 11:30AM he got up too. After making sure the dining room curtains were shut (cuz, last week a bunch of people visiting the open house next door got the pleasure of the hub and I dancing in our underwear - what can we say we like the opening bit of Different Strokes) we got the WiiFit out. The hub showed me how it worked and let me tell you, it is the best and most fun way to exercise. It weighs you and tells you your BMI. You can set goals and the thing tracks your daily progress. You can work out to Yoga, Arobics, Strength Training and something else which I forget.

The best thing about WiiFit is that you do a series of these 2-5 minutes exercises, so basically, I am never thinking "When will the torture be over?" Like I do when I am at the gym. There are fun programs like skiing, running these courses, hula hooping (which is so completely fun to watch someone else do), pretending to be a penguin and catching fish, etc. The yoga poses are really cool. Each exercise you do you earn points and coins. The coins go into a purse and the purse adds the coins which equal minutes you worked out. If you do good exercising and earning coins you unlock other fun work out games. The whole idea of WiiFit is to better your posture and strength. I had a WiiAge of 45 so I have some work to do. I can't say how much I like this Wii. This gaming unit was totally made for me. First time in my life I beat someone else at something (I totally beat the hubby at Ski Jump game). And you know what? My muscles actually hurt today so the thing really works!

The hub has had fun making more people (Mii's). Now I get to work out with Steve Rusca, Jack Black, some dudes from The Big Lewbowski and the entire cast of Lost (Hurley is funny). Apparently there is this site online that tells you how to make certain celebrities. I still can't get over how well he did Steve Rusca. I did step aerobics yesterday with Steve next to me! We find that it is harder to make girls then guys for some reason. I made Krueger yesterday, but unfortunately, the Wii doesn't have flannel so the Mii didn't look spot on.

Later in the afternoon after getting cleaned up from our workouts we headed out to see a movie. This week we decided to go see the new flick, THE HAPPENING and unfortunately, it totally sucked. I won't tell you why incase readers want to go see it but Shamalamadingdong gets worse with every movie he makes. He truly made his best film the first time out.

After taking in a movie we went over to Los Feliz and got tickets to a comedy club on Fletcher Street. While we were waiting we decided to grab some dinner at BIRDS. I never ate there before and the hub had only had take out from there but I decided to go there because it was the busiest place on the street (which hopefully equals good food). Luckily, I was right and boy, was the food ever tasty! It's always fun to go to a new restaurant and find good food. BIRDS is all about the chicken. You can have chicken a million different ways and it's all very tasty. At least, both dishes we got were tasty.

Finished up dinner about 9:40PM, just in time to stand in line for 20 minutes before getting into the comedy club. The club was small but it was no measure for the comedy which was really funny. I had never hung out on Fletcher Street. It seemed to be a hip and happening place with cute stores and interesting restaurants. It was fun to watch all the various people out and about. After having good food and seeing a good show we will most certainly be making another pit stop to Fletcher Street.

Well, I hear the hub moving around so he must be up. Time for us to log in some more exercise with the Wii.

Later dudes!

Buffalo Wild Wings

When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

The Lost Art of Letter Writing

This week I was the recepient of two postcards. In the age of e-mailing and blogging this is a rare occurrrance. It's not that people don't write anymore it's just they are doing it in different forms and I think in less personal forms. It's kinda sad when you think about it. For me, there is nothing better then getting a hand written letter in the mail because it means someone was specifically thinking about you. Writing a letter these days takes a lot of effort when GMail is so near. I mean a person has to pick out stationary (if they even have any on hand), find time to sit down and compose a letter (and who has a spare half hour these days?), find or buy a stamp and actually walk the letter to the mailbox. With all this effort, no wonder people email these days! My girlfriend Becky and I joke that the United States Postal Service has become "Snail Mail." Most times before a letter gets to us these days we already know the information inside ...
