The Web We Weave

The cool thing about getting older is watching all my dear friends find success in their lives. Whether it's getting their first big break, getting a great job or doing something they have always wanted to do. In college, my friends and I were struggling with studies and worrying about finding the right job. Didn't have any money except for a few dollars to buy a burger or a slice of pizza. Then in our twenties, we found a job but it wasn't what we expected and suffered. We ate value meals. Then by our late twenties it looked like we finally knew where we wanted to go but had to start over. This allowed us to eat at chain restaruants. And now, as we move into our thirties, I start to see that little web life weaves take shape. A little more success along with non-chain restaurants and we are on our way.

Last night I caught up with my good friend and college roommate, Carmen. Some of you who went to Hawaii with us last year might remember her as the girl with the gorgeous handmade dress. We always have a habbit of talking to each other a lot and then falling off the face of the planet. It's a cycle that repeats. Three days ago the cycle began again when I get a call that she was going to be in LA for two days to attend a textile convention.

Last night, I got the full scoop as to what has been going on in her life. Since Hawaii she has taken on a business partner and has started creating collections. Yes, collections of clothing, as in Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. She and her partner are busy starting to sell their clothing to stores in San Francisco. They want to start selling clothes to stores in LA.

This was girl I shared a dorm with, who changed her major a million times, who graduated with an Anthropologie degree only to move to SF only to go back to school to study fasion to graudate and work in a eye glass store and now she has a business! It's amazing the web she is weaving. I am sure in 5 years I will be looking back and saying "I knew her before she bacame this big fashion designer."

Anyhoo, go support my friend and buy some clothes. Check out her address: www.proteacollection.com.

Vaccine Part 1

As a little girl I would look on my mom’s arm and wonder why she had such a weird mark near her shoulder. A few days ago, as the warm solution penetrated my bloodstream, I started to cry remembering my mom’s mark. The nurse asked me if I was okay and I told her I was so incredibly happy. As a diabetic I was stressed never knowing if I was doing enough to avoid it but also, keeping some semblance of life in doing outdoor things. I cried because I am incredibly grateful to the SCIENCE that made this possible in only a year. Less time for me to worry about my only kiddo should the worse happen.  If ur on the fence...I’ve worked in entertainment for over 20 years and I’ve seen first hand how easy celebrities influence the public.  Some do good and others well...I’m happy to have a little bit of the gracious Dolly Parton with me.  Scientists on the other hand, very rarely get the recognition for their years of study, years of research and expertise contributing to (wo)mankind....

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...

7th Birthday

Mark ur calendars, Dec 12 is an awesome day to go to Disneyland! There was no one at the park yesterday morning. We had 3 amazing hours 8am to 11am to ride! Some Disneyland records we set yesterday:  ✅A After many years, we finally got a wristband (and bought) a giant Disneyland candy cane.  ✅F First people on pirates of the carribean.  ✅ Line for Indiana Jones was 10 minutes long  😳  This never happens and we sat next to the people (strangers) who sat next to us on pirates b ut we did not walk over to the ride with them. ✅ By a fluke, we were also the first people on Big Thunder Mountain and kiddo rode in the cart by herself! (They opened late and we were in the right spot) ✅Kiddo  rode front seat on Matterhorn because a kind guy, his first visit, said he was too tall to sit in front and she wouldn’t be able to see sitting behind him ✅ Prode space mountain for the first time and huffed that it wasn’t scary and it was no IncrediCoaster. And the line...
