The Blah Days of January

It's been cold, it's been rainy, it's been cold, it's been rainy... Everyday it's one or the other in not so sunny Southern California. Haven't written because there hasn't been much to report. The Hub and I have been doing a pretty good job of of trying to take it easy. You never know how crazy life in LA can be until you are dog tired and that is what I was in December. I am glad our holiday season was low key because it gave me the chance to recharge my battery's but the problem is keeping it that way. I see the craziness of work sneaking it's way back in. Can you say 3 summer blockbusters?

What helped in keeping our holidays low key was the fact that 90 lb Girl ended his job before Christmas. Not knowing where his next job would come from put the halt on spending money and pretty much put the halt on us doing anything but relaxing at home. During our down time I took up some reading and totally got into feng shui-ing our entire house. Anyone who knows me knows I love to rearrange and rearrange and rearrange. Something can't sit for too long before I feel the urge to move it.

After taking the feng shui book's advice on how to get a new job (i.e. which involved hanging wind chimes outside our front door and putting good job thoughts in an aluminum box in our helpful people and travel room a.k.a. the dining room) my hubby got a call for an interview. It wasn't with his past employer but from a cold call or rather cold submission of his resume to an ad online. This past Friday during the horrible down pour he went in for an interview. He had a pretty good feeling about it when he got home so that night we splurged and went to dinner. This week he got a call with a job offer!! And guess what? He not only got a good pay raise but he got a job working days so I can see him! You might not think this is due to feng shui but I do (Brian said he had never felt good after an interview before and nobody ever answers those online job posting ads). Even if it wasn't feng shui, at the very least, there is something to thinking positively. I think if you keep an open mind anything is possible. Open minds are open to opportunities.

Anyhoo, the hubby goes to work the week after next. Not only did he get a new job but the old people called him in to work a few days this week (Thank God I upped the purple and gold in the prosperity room a.k.a the master bathroom). Anyhoo I am happy. I told myself not to worry when his job ended sooner then expected and for once I didn't worry (which is totally rare) and whala he's got a new job. Thank you feng shui and God!

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

My Favorite Gourmet Trucks

As of last night, I have now tried 18 food trucks! Only 60 more to go! My friends, Krueger and Kristy joined me at 55 Degree Wine in Atwar Village to try the always busy Grilled Cheese Truck! I have run into the truck a few times now but something has always prevented me from trying their food. Mostly the really, really long lines!! This time the hour wait wasn't so bad with two girls to gossip with. By the time we got to the front we were ready to execute our food plan. Kristy took lead and placed an order for 3 sandwiches (the brie, the mac-n-cheese and the rib meat) plus the dessert sandwich and some tator tots!!! I was a bit bummed that they didn't have the sandwich I went for, the Harvest sandwich but the 3 sandwiches we got more than made up for everything. I was glad to try this truck with 2 girls because we split the sandiches in 3rds which was awesome because I got to try a variety of their sandwiches. Now I must add the Grilled Cheese Truck to my list of fa...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...
