Stranded

On the way to Detroit we had to taxi back into the terminal because the navigational system on the plane wasn't working. After 2 hours we finally swapped planes and took off to Detroit. Guess what happened on the way back? The same thing! Is it too much to ask that an airline have working navigational systems and to get people to where they are going on time?

Navigational systems aside, I had a good time in Michigan. After arriving 3 hours late on Thursday morning we meet up with the Rusca's. On the way to Matt's house Brian and I decided we were hungry and stopped at White Castle for mini burgers. Brian had never had the famous burgers and Jung had taken the trouble to map quest the location for us so we stopped. Nothing like meat at 10:30 in the morning!

We got to Matt's house and can you believe, it was actually snowing! Gratefully, it was just a small flurry. After the tour of his house, cat naps were needed and then it was time to to feed the horses. Matt has a horse farm in his backyard where people board their horses. The owner told Matt he didn't mind if he feed the horses. So we got some carrots and went out in the back. We had so much fun and quickly ran out of carrots. Then Matt showed us how to feed the horses grass. You see there is a particular way to hold the grass so you don't get your fingers bitten or in Brian's case his balls. Yep, the horse bite him in the royal gems. Later that night a group of us went to the local Irish Pub for dinner and drinks. Then later stopped at Meijer's to see the best grocery store in the world. Ok- one of them at least, to pick up some breakfast food.

The next morning Matt/Mom/Rosemary made breakfast for us, the friends that arrived at the house and a few relatives that came into town (over 20 people!). Everyone was quite satisfied by the tasty feast. Afterward, everyone scattered. People went to get tuxes, pick people at the airport and my brother went tanning for the honeymoon in Aruba (he came back as red as his tuxedo vest!). We basically hung around the house playing games, eating, keeping my poor grandma from escaping (she likes to walk and unfortunately, she has Alzheimer's) and making further trips to feed the horses.

Later that night we attended the wedding rehearsal and went to the rehearsal dinner where Brian and I were lucky enough to sit at the kiddy table. I am afraid we were a bad influence on the kids. I'd tell you the story but they were minors.

After dinner, the Rusca's and Brian and I drove an hour to my parents' house and they got to see the craziness that is my childhood home. I am pretty sure my dad's house is the only house left in America that doesn't have cable. Everyone got a kick out of me showing them how to turn the antennae on the roof.

The visit at my parents' house was short. I didn't even get to show Brian any of my old stomping grounds (which in hindsight may have been a good thing). We basically had the morning to get ready and get back on the road to go to the church.

Matt and Kate's wedding was nice. After the ceremony the couple was greeted with bubbles and then it was on to pictures. We took our nice camera and tried to be Toby but I am sure our pictures aren't as good as a Toby's.

After the ceremony I was charged with the task of driving Matt's car to Frankenmuth to the where the reception was. While we were driving Brian and I stopped off to Meijer's to get a few things to decorate his and Kate's hotel room.

We got to Frankenmuth and met up with my cousin and we decorated the room. Right as we were about to finish some of Matt's friends came into the room. Apparently they had the same idea. There was a weird encounter before we left. It wasn't until the next morning that I found out why his friends were clutching onto their paper bag so tightly. Apparently they left some extra toys behind in the room and were embarrassed to show Matt's sister what they had brought. I wish they would have told me cuz it would have been more fun! hehehe

The reception was pretty fun. Caught up with relatives and old friends. They had great music and a full bar so everyone was pretty happy. The Rusca's made a ton of new friends and were a hit. As we were leaving they got a million hugs from all of Matt and Kate's friends. Guess who will be invited to all the family functions? Matt was still red at the reception and turned even redder as the night and many beers set in.

The next day my parents treated us to brunch at the Bavarian Inn and we did a bit of shopping. Stopped in at Bronner's, the largest Christmas store in the world. Brian and I bought a ton of teal and white decoration to match our new living room. Then it was off to the airport to sit on the runway for another few hours. Oh yeah, did I mention I hate Northwest?

Buffalo Wild Wings

When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

The Lost Art of Letter Writing

This week I was the recepient of two postcards. In the age of e-mailing and blogging this is a rare occurrrance. It's not that people don't write anymore it's just they are doing it in different forms and I think in less personal forms. It's kinda sad when you think about it. For me, there is nothing better then getting a hand written letter in the mail because it means someone was specifically thinking about you. Writing a letter these days takes a lot of effort when GMail is so near. I mean a person has to pick out stationary (if they even have any on hand), find time to sit down and compose a letter (and who has a spare half hour these days?), find or buy a stamp and actually walk the letter to the mailbox. With all this effort, no wonder people email these days! My girlfriend Becky and I joke that the United States Postal Service has become "Snail Mail." Most times before a letter gets to us these days we already know the information inside ...
